Brain Buffet Facts
My first post!
Hello and welcome to the first post on this newsletter!
First of all, I want to thank you for being here and I greatly appreciate that!
As I promised, this should be a quick read so I’m not going to waste your time and we’ll jump right into it.
Fact 1: A day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus
I will start with a mind-blowing space discovery. A day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus. How is this even possible? The reason is that Venus has a really slow rotation speed. It actually takes 243 days here on Earth for Venus to finish a single rotation around its own axis. For the people who don’t know: The definition of one day is when a planet does a rotation around itself. But here is the funny part: It only takes Venus 225 days to complete an entire orbit around the sun, which is the definition of a year.
Fact 2: Bananas are berries, but strawberries are not
When I discovered this, it felt as though my life had been turned upside down. I mean, the word "Berries" is in "Strawberries". WHY ISN'T IT A BERRY??? Here's why: A fruit needs three things to be classified as a berry: three fleshy layers, two or more seeds, and it must develop from a single flower with one ovary. Strawberries fail this test as their seeds are on the outside, and they originate from more than one ovary. Bananas, however, meet all the criteria! They have a peel, a fleshy middle, and more than two seeds, all developing from a single flower with one ovary. Life lesson: Not everything that is called a berry is actually a berry.
Fact 3: Octopuses have three hearts
Yes, you read that right! Two of the hearts work exclusively to move blood beyond the animal’s gills, while the third keeps circulation flowing for the organs. The third heart actually stops beating when the octopus swims, explaining the species’ predilection for crawling rather than swimming, which exhausts them.
